The money was earmarked to assist Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah, Tenn. —where every building on campus was destroyed— and First Family students who attend Union University in Jackson. Senior Pastor Pete Tackett presented Sharon Baptist's pastor, Jerry Spencer, with a check for $6,500 to help with expenses while they are in temporary facilities.
“We were blessed to learn that the morning we drove down to present the check to Sharon Baptist Church, the church staff there had just been discussing that they needed an additional $6,500 to purchase sound equipment for their temporary facility. We had no idea God would meet their need in such a specific way,” said Tackett. “It just confirms that God is in control, even when we don't understand why things happen.”
In a letter of appreciation to First Baptist Church, Spencer said: “Thank you so much for driving over to Savannah to bring us a most generous love gift… Your love and interest in our needs at this time have been a great encouragement to us.”
The First Family is committed to meeting the needs of people in Columbia and around the world through small group Bible studies, engaging worship services, and hands-on service projects.
