The First Baptist Church of Columbia will honor the Rev. Billy Kimbrough on Sunday, March 1, for his 45-plus years in fulltime ministry on the occasion of his 10th anniversary on the church's staff.Kimbrough, 72, serves as the part-time minister to Senior Adults. Prior to retiring from fulltime ministry and moving to Columbia in 1998, Kimbrough pastored in seven Southern Baptist Churches in Arkansas and Alabama. More >>
First Family breaks ground for children's building
"Jesus said ‘let the little children come to me,'" First Baptist Church’s Senior Pastor Pete Tackett said. New Women's Ministry Begins
The women of the First Family are launching a newly organized women's ministry. Led by Marie Armenia, this ministry's aim is to enable the women of the church to better serve one another and show our "love for one another" to our community. We hope to identify and focus in on the needs of the women who attend the First Family – and to encourage and stand united with the ministry to women that already exists within our Body through partnering with Pastor Dave and our small groups and one-on-one fellowship.More>>
First Family Signs Three-year agreement with Church in Rio
During a worship service at the conclusion of the latest medical mission trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, representatives from the First Family signed a three-year partnership agreement with Parque Independencia First Baptist Church. The partnership officially begins Jan. 1, 2009, and ends Dec. 31, 2011.More >>

First KIDS Participate in State Bible Drill
“Attention. Present Bibles. The Ten Commandments. Start.” That’s a phrase you may have heard during the State Bible Drill held at the First Family Sat., April 26. More than 50 students from around our region gathered to celebrate what they had learned this year through Children’s Bible Drill – an intense Bible skills study for children in fourth through sixth grades. Project Development Team Named
During our first quarter business meeting, our church unanimously approved the Steering Team's recommendation to name Larry Cook, Mark Cashion, and Rick Jones to work with the pastors on a project development team. This team will complete a feasibility study for our new childrens wing, which is part of our Kingdom Initiative emphasis.More >>
The First Family Assists Tornado-Stricken Church
The First Family recently collected more than $8,000 to assist individuals affected by the tornadoes that swept through parts of Tennessee. The money was earmarked to assist Sharon Baptist Church in Savannah, Tenn. —where every building on campus was destroyed— and First Family students who attend Union University in Jackson. Senior Pastor Pete Tackett presented Sharon Baptist's pastor, Jerry Spencer, with a check for $6,500 to help with expenses while they are in temporary facilities.More >>
