FIRST KIDS Participate in State Bible Drill

“Attention. Present Bibles. The Ten Commandments. Start.” That’s a phrase you may have heard during the State Bible Drill held at the First Family Sat., April 26. More than 50 students from around our region gathered to celebrate what they had learned this year through Children’s Bible Drill – an intense Bible skills study for children in fourth through sixth grades. Fourteen of the students who reached the state level were our own First KIDS.

“Each year I am amazed at the accomplishments of our kids in Bible Drill,” says Emerging Generations Pastor Rick Blevins. “It is a great testimony to the commitment and dedication of our leaders and parents. Our hope and prayer is that this program encourages a deeper love for and better understanding of God’s Word that will stay with these children for a lifetime.”

Cindy Moore, one of the First Family's Bible Drill leaders and the regional coordinator for Children's Bible Drill, says children participating in Bible Drill are learning tools that will impact their entire lives. “A child will retain more of what they learn when they are 10, 11, and 12 years old than they will any other time in their lives,” says Moore. “I cannot think of anything more important than hiding God's Word in their hearts.”

Children’s Bible Drill helps children increase in their knowledge and use of the Bible. They develop skills in locating Bible books and key passages – this includes memorizing and locating all of the books of the Bible, memorizing Bible verses and key passages, and learning how to apply the Bible to their lives.

Four Segments of Children’s Bible Drill

Book Calls – The leader names any book of the Bible. The child is to find the book called, place his or her finger on the page, and step forward within 10 seconds. If called on, the child will name the book preceding the book called, the name of the book called, and the name of the book following the book called.

Key Passages Calls – A title of one of the 10 key passages is called. The child finds the passage in his or her Bible, places finger on the page, and steps forward. If called on, the child must state the title of the key passage and the Scripture reference, and read one verse from the passage.

Quotation Calls – The leader names a reference from one of several quotes the children memorize. If the child knows the verse from memory, he or she steps forward prepared to quote the verse and give the reference.

Completion Calls – The leader reads the underlined portion of a verse from one of several the children memorize. If the child knows the reference and the entire verse from memory, he or she steps forward prepared to quote the verse and give the reference.
